Anniversary Weekend (Successful Drone Flight)

It's hard to believe, but this weekend was the 10th anniversary of our first date!  We had a full slate planned... some time working from the boat, an excursion to my niece's law school grad party, and even a chance to go out for a daysail and try the drone again.

I wanted to try a day of working from the boat, so we headed down to Rock Hall after work on Thursday, arriving just a bit after sunset and capturing these photos from the marina.

Friday was a day we both were working from the boat.  You can see that one of us has the plush corner office and the other just a mere cubicle, so it's not too different than in real life.

I woke up Saturday morning to a nice fog and had my morning walk in this misty environment.  Later we enjoyed breakfast out in the cockpit while watching the view.

I found this nice spiderweb on my morning walk.

We had to leave Osprey Point midday to make it to Meredith's (my niece's) graduation party from law school. We extended an invitation to her (my only family member who has not been sailing with us all this time) to bring some friends and come out... we'll have to see if she accepts.

We spent a fair bit of the evening in the cockpit of Seas The Day, just saying hello to passers-by and capturing the wonderful colors after the day's rains.

On Sunday morning, after my walk and some breakfast, we went out for a daysail.  Yes, it was foggy, but the fog had risen enough that we had a fair bit of visibility.  We knew the winds were going to be light, but after getting down to the #3 buoy, we were able to pull out the sails.

There were low lying clouds all around the bay.

Vicky took the helm for much of this trip.

With Vicky at the helm and things rather calm, I decided to try and fly the drone again.  Of course, again, shortly after releasing the drone I received the dreaded message "limit of flight reached" and started to panic a bit.  A few minutes later I realized that as we sailed, the home location was being left behind.  Even set at one mile, it meant that a few minutes into drone flight, the drone was prevented from following us and we had to turn back.  This is still more I have to work on.  The Mavic Mini doesn't allow for moveable home locations and I had to resort to manually resetting it and having Vicky tack and head back to the drone (which we had to do several times).

We were able to capture this decent video of Seas The Day under sail!

Here are a few static captures.

Tacking to head back to the drone.

Retrieving the drone was every bit as exciting as before.  After several attempts, I ended up flying it into the cockpit and trapping it (I had the propeller guards on) against the Bimini.  No fingers or hands were injured on this drone flight.

Following the drone retrieval, Vicky kept the helm back to the #3 buoy and then decided to take her all the way in.  She did a bang up job... only relinquishing the helm when it came time to put her in reverse to get into our slip.

Soon she'll be doing the whole journey!

After tying up and getting some showers, we were finally presentable enough to join the Osprey Point Slipholders party before packing up and heading back to Newark, DE.
