Sept. 2021 Vacation - Days 11 & 12 - Anchoring Out (Cantler's & Magothy River)

Tuesday

As planned, after a leisurely breakfast, we filled some of our tanks with water and fuel, pumped out others and took off.  Our goal was to continue our exploration of the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

We finished our operations and departed a bit before 11:00 AM.  I took a long look down Ego Alley, but decided against the attempt.

Vicky wants me to win the lottery and buy her this boat.

I suggested she join the navy and maybe she could go on this one.

A few years ago we were in the Annapolis area to look at boats and we tried Cantler's Riverside for the first time.  Vicky has been wanting to go back, and now the opportunity presented itself.  Leaving from Annapolis, we could easily get there before the lunchtime rush, so we headed across Whitehall Bay and up Mill Creek to this famous crab house, and for the first time, we could eat there while we watched over Seas The Day at their dock.

It is unusual for the channel to be so close to the shore.

A few minutes after we docked, we saw Shardana approach, dock and let off a couple from their charter.

Sister Ships - Both are Catalina 425s

Will Vicky ever get enough crabs???

This house was getting some work done on their beach

We then set out into the Chesapeake Bay (which was very smooth this time) to go under the Bay Bridge and then head back into the Magothy River.

Sandy Point Shoal Lighthouse marks the entrance to the Magothy.

We made our way around Gibson Island to this cove that is just south of High Tide Horse Farm.

I spent a few minutes flying my drone for fun and happened to capture a few photos as well.

We had dinner just as the sun was setting.  Around this time, some skiers came into the cove and gave us our own private water show!

Eventually things calmed down and we watched the hues cool down as the breeze cooled us down.

Wednesday

I had grand plans of going out and sailing for the day, but I realized mid-morning that our energy was low... both of us were absorbed in reading or watching something and we sort of made the decision to just lie at anchor.

We awoke to a wonderful sunrise.

Soon after sunrise, Vicky decided this would be her lucky day to try fishing (I knew better... I was still aboard), but she had fun trying.

I sat in the salon and read my book - China Rich Girlfriend: A Novel - while enjoying the breeze coming in from the open skylights in the salon of the 425.

Around Noon, it got too hot to stay below without AC, so we fired up the genset and turned on the air conditioning.  We watch Worth (about valuing lives after 9/11) and then had some more time to relax and enjoy life at anchor (on the inside).

Around dinner time, I made my famous Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese (a box of Kraft and a tray of Jack Daniel's pulled pork prepared and mixed together).

Our "route" for the day
(The anchor seems to be holding)

After dinner, I pointed out the fat guy in the boat next to ours (wearing only a thong) to Vicky and we continued to read and watch as the night fell.  There are some storms in the distance that might come our way so we did a final check on the anchor and we will see how it goes.

Our plan for tomorrow is to explore the Magothy and Patapsco rivers and end up in Baltimore.

Summary of Costs

Cantler's Riverside - $98
