Sept. 2021 Vacation - Days 9 & 10 - Annapolis

We used the intermission while at home to order some provisions, and do some laundry as well as let Vicky attend to her business.

Sunday

Vicky finished her business late Saturday night (early Sunday morning in China) and after a bit of sleep, we loaded up and headed to Rock Hall on Sunday morning.  Since we used the first week to explore the Eastern Bay and the Wye River, we decided to spend this week on the Western Shore, and the first stop would be Annapolis.

These first couple of pictures were the only ones where the sea state was relatively calm.  The tide was going out and the wind was coming in from the south.  I knew from the weather reports that it would only get choppier as the day progressed, so we forgot about sailing into the wind and just headed towards the Bay Bridge.

Leaving Osprey Point

It turned out to be a bit of a washing machine... especially around the are of the bridge where waves were at least 3 feet high and very unpredictable and unsettled.  Vicky was taking a nap in the cockpit and I was worried she would be launched off the seats and land on the floor.  This wild sea state continued from the bridge until we were well into the approach into Annapolis... and things finally calmed down once we made the right turn after passing the red #4 buoy.

Eventually we made it to The Yacht Basin Company and after two attempts (note to self... we always need to be stern-in if we want the electric lines to reach), we were tied off and made it in to the office to pay.

Their fuel dock overlooks the Annapolis harbor mooring field, shown below.

Since Tao and Song Lei live in the DC region these days, they agreed to meet us in Annapolis and we shared a nice dinner at Pusser's follow by dessert at Kilwins (note to self... I must get away from Vicky and get some fudge there).

We then did a quick walk around the base of Ego Alley before heading back to Seas The Day.

We're on a different spot in The Yacht Basin.  Last June I was berthed among the super yachts, and had nice view across to Annapolis City Marina and the Spa Creek bridge.  This time, I'm in the Yacht Basin's northern fairway... very convenient to the street, but without such a nice view.  Oh well (we do get much better WiFi signals, though).

Monday

On Monday, we were lazy in the morning... the goal was simply to introduce Vicky to Annapolis.  Around Noon, we walked across the Spa Creek Bridge to have lunch at The Boatyard Bar & Grill.

After some naps in the afternoon, we walked around the main part of town... up Main Street, around Church Circle, State Circle and back down to Main St., where we found our way to the Iron Rooster for dinner (after I stopped and got my fudge at Kilwins).  After dinner we spent some time watching Ego Alley and listening to some really bad blues players (seriously, a passerby finally offered to tune their guitar... it didn't help... much).

The plan in the morning is to have a leisurely breakfast (leftovers from the Iron Rooster... and a RoosTart!) and then fill up water & fuel and pump out before continuing our exploration of the western shore.
