Father's Day Weekend

This past weekend was Father's Day and John brought his girlfriend, Jess, down to Rock Hall for a bit of vacation before she started a new job.  We went down to meet them Thursday night and spent a few nice evenings and two days out on the water.

Saturday, we headed out and you could immediately see storms off in the distance.  The new Seas The Day has radar which means I could see exactly where rainfall was located.  So we sailed around the first storm, then had to sail through a brief one on the way south towards the Bay Bridge.

Sailing through a brief storm meant quickly getting the Bimini insert in to keep the seats from getting wet.  Teamwork got it done!

As we continued south, we could see that Rock Hall was getting clobbered.  We later learned that although we only experienced 10 min or so of rain (with another 2 or 3 min shower), Rock Hall had large storms lasting several hours.

Vicky spent some time polishing the brightwork...

... while we watched the storms over Kent Island...

... and eventually made our way down to Thomas Point Light.  There we anchored for a while so they could fish.

One highlight of the day was seeing an AIS entry for SV Delos.  I have been a Patreon of theirs for a while now and it was a rush to hail them on the radio and wish Brian a happy first father's day.  They were about 1 NM away and are barely visible as the twin masted vessel in the center of the photo below.

Storms were all around us, but we stayed in the sun and fished just south of the lighthouse.

As we headed up the final approach to Rock Hall, we saw a rainbow!

Later we tried an evening at Watermans, staying outside on the deck to minimize any COVID risk.  We did manage to catch a wedding that was being held there.  I guess it's a thing for the bride and groom to circle the Rock Hall harbor.

Sunday by contrast was just another day of fishing and sailing.  We did see a beautiful storm over Baltimore.  It was a great weekend!
