Xiaomi and Family Comes for a Daysail, Time Together on the Foredeck, and Storm Prep

Before we get into this weekend's sailing, I have to acknowledge that Winter's Sailing came through and at the last moment before our guests arrived and we took off for the day, I had a working bow thruster.

Those with knowledge and good eyesight may notice that it's only screwed in with one screw and upside down... The first repair attempt had it reversed - going to port when starboard was pressed, etc., - so rather than troubleshoot right the, we simply turned it upside down!  They will continue the repair next week.

(various parts await the continuation of the repair)

Our guests this weekend were my colleague's family - Xiaomi, Gabe and Neve.  They had sailed with us last year (a couple of times) and were eager to join us again.

It's been a really weird year (we're still in COVID Summer) and the preamble to this trip is a case in point.  Prior to them coming, we discussed their social distancing approaches and timed this trip so it was two weeks past Neve's outdoor summer camp experience.  You can't be too careful (well, maybe you can and in that case I want to be in that category).

We headed out and decided that we'd like to see another lighthouse, so we set off south to get to Thomas Point Light and back.

Underway, we went under the Bay Bridge and saw some of the large vessels anchored outside of Annapolis.  I'll let the photos tell the story.

When we got back, Vicky and I were eager to share some of the dumplings we made a few nights ago along with some tomatoes & mozzarella.

An Evening on the Foredeck

After bidding goodbye to Xiaomi and her family, we rested a bit and then had our normal drinks.  Vicky wanted to go to the foredeck.  The moon was out, we got out our LED Candles and had our drinks up there.

(Sorry... the selfie camera doesn't do so well in low light)

We stayed up there for a nice while enjoying the breeze and listening to a wedding take place at the Inn.  (I hope that doesn't become a spreader event.)

Hurricane Prep

On Sunday, it was boat chore day.  We had to once again clean the AC sea-straining filter.  I was talking to Andy from Yekaterina where I learned that he had an eel trapped in his AC hoses.  I'm glad I heard about that possibility before experiencing it firsthand.

Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaias was coming up the eastern US and expected to hit Rock Hall on Tuesday. Not knowing how strong it would be and having too many meetings on Tuesday, we decided to prep Seas The Day ahead of time.  Basically, we doubled the dock lines, removed the bimini and counter-wrapped the spinnaker halyard around the jib.

Hopefully, it was all for naught and things will be fine when we return.

One final note... there are two photos that I'm going to get in trouble for.  Can you tell which ones?

ADDENDUM:

As as happened both times that Neve sailed with us (see the links at the beginning), we just received a wonderful card of thanks along with an original cartoon!
