A Beautiful Day with Just the Two of Us (and Some Dolphins)

Every now and then we can have a weekend on the boat just to ourselves.  This weekend was one.  Originally, we were planning to come down Friday evening and host some work friends for a cookout, but predicted heat index was too high and we ended up hosting at our home.

So we drove to Rock Hall on Saturday morning, and after a quick lunch from the Oasis Pool Bar at Osprey Point, we departed for an afternoon on the water.

It was simply gorgeous.  Temps were in the mid-80s without too much humidity.  Skies had a nice mix of blue sky and white clouds to be interesting photographically.  Winds and sea were light so we could move along pulling 2.5 kts of boat speed from 3 to 4 kt winds.  I'll let the photos tell the brief story.

We did see a ton of sailboats out enjoying this time on the water.

Vicky decided that since our boat speed was so low, she would deploy one of the fishing lines my Brother set up the other weekend.  Of course she didn't catch anything since I was still onboard.

At one point I noticed some dolphins feeding in the water.  A brief video is here which captures one or two dolphins (towards the end).  I don't like to interfere with dolphins in nature and so we just observed from a distance.

We returned around 5:00 PM and quickly retooled then headed over to North Point marina for another event with the Americas Boating Club of Wilmington.

After having some burgers and brats, we headed back to Osprey Point under a gorgeous late afternoon sky.

Later we sat in the cockpit and enjoyed the evening.

Sunday morning was relaxed - up until a point.  We decided it was too hot to go out, so our plan was to relax and then stop at Costco for some shopping on the way home.

That plan, however, was rushed when I noticed that our AC stopped working a bit after 11:00 AM.  A little bit of troubleshooting with the switches showed me that we were having a significant electrical issue at the marina (the voltage - normally 120 - was reading 70).  After a bit of discussion around the dock and a call to the marina office, I learned there was a huge electrical something that happened in Chestertown affecting all of Rock Hall.

The batteries were mostly charged.  Luckily, I had selected this morning to defrost the fridge so all those items were already in our cooler.  We grabbed the stuff from our freezer, shut down all systems on the boat and threw the breakers on the pedestal to prevent any start-up surges from hurting us.

Then we quickly abandoned ship!
