A Fishing Weekend

Please note that the title says "Fishing Weekend", not "Fish Catching Weekend" which might be all you need to know if successful fishing is your interest.  Both of my regular readers know that's not possible on Seas The Day while I'm on board, so read along for the story.

This was the weekend my brother, Rob, wanted to join and he was scheduled to pop down on Sunday.  As the weekend approached, however, it began to look like one we might want to skip.  The weather forecast was for a super hot Saturday followed by a stormy Sunday.

We decided to go and departed Newark at 5:15 Friday evening just after finishing work and despite some storms predicted, we made it down without too much rain.  It actually looked pleasant (if eerily calm) as I walked out to B-Dock.

Saturday morning Vicky wanted to get up and go fishing.  Getting up wasn't so easy but around 9:00 AM we both poked our heads out of the companionway and then spent the next 5 minutes basically daring each other to go out.  (It was very hot... heat index was low 90s in the shade)  I figured we would only be out for an hour or two.

Vicky wanted to try fishing again, so we headed south to the midway point between the green #3 buoy and the red #4 buoy on the approach into the Rock Hall/Swan Creek area.  There we cut the engine and left her fish as we drifted south.

We were soon passed by friends Peter and Gail on Domino and traded boat photos.

With Vicky fishing, we drifted down below the #3 buoy and out into the area between Swan Creek and the Chester River.  I made some leftover Brats with some Pringles chips for lunch.  We were not the only people out on the bay that were fishing but not catching (I heard someone ask on Channel 16 if "anybody catching anything out here today?")

Right after lunch we heard that there were dolphins spotted again in the Bay.  They were spotted by the range-light tower for the Tolchester channel.  This was only a half-hour away and we headed over there.

Once making it to the range light, we found no dolphins, but noticed that the clouds were
building and it seemed a good time to head back.

We spent the rest of the day working on the computer, watching TV and then headed to the Osprey Point Pool Bar for some drinks and dinner.

By Saturday evening, the weather forecast for Sunday had shifted.  It now looked like we would be able to do something on the bay in the morning, so my brother, Rob, came down and we headed out to fix some of Vicky's fishing.

By the time Rob arrived, we were getting mixed weather reports... most were saying that storms could start anytime after 12:00 Noon, but one was saying we might get some weather in the morning.  We decided to stay close to home... drifting back and forth between the Red #4 and the Green #5 buoys in the approach into Swan Creek.

We didn't catch anything (of course we didn't catch anything... I was on-board... I keep telling her that).  But we had a wonderful time chatting while fishing but not catching.

We arrived back at the dock just in time to quickly pack up and leave just after Noon.  We stopped at Harbor Shack for some lunch (sorry... no photos... we were hungry) and felt the first drops as we were getting into the cars to go our separate ways.

We arrived home before 2:30 and had time to unpack and clean up before the front hit us around 4:00 PM in Newark, DE
