Today's goal was another night of anchoring on the Wye River. This is our favorite anchorage the first place we anchored (and took the drone shot of Seas The Day) after we got the new anchor and it was also the place we anchored last year when the drone fell into the river. With luck, we might be able to find a spot in Dividing Creek, which The Waterway Guide says is "one of the most idyllic gunkholes of the entire Bay".
We began departing Herrington Harbor South marina after breakfast, a quick stop at the market and a brief stop at the pumpout dock.

There was no wind, so we motored across the Chesapeake Bay and up into the Eastern Bay.
We went up the Wye River, past our first anchorage (the little cove to the left of Dividing Creek) and peeked into Dividing Creek itself. In past years, this was crowded, but today there were only two boats up the creek so we entered and grabbed the little cove off our port bow. It proved a perfect place to anchor.
One thing to note is that our particular cove had some inquisitive black wasps. These weren't aggressive, but a few decided to check to see if Seas The Day's interior might be a good place for a home and they were quickly zapped.
But Vicky wanted to fish and, alas, I was on board. We all know where this is going... many photos of Vicky fishing, but no photos of her catching a fish.

She seemed to have fun, but in the end my Father's Day dinner was beer brats instead of fresh fish.
We were kept company by this shore bird who wandered around the edge of our cove. For some reason, photos from Vicky's iPhone came out, but mine did not. I expect I must have a setting that's incorrect.
What a beautiful location! |
As evening fell, we enjoyed some ice cream.

As night fell, the forrest got early silent and still. You can get a sense of this from this video.
